Data & sources

Every record on this site traces to public government data. This page is the ledger.

Primary sources

Geoscience Australia — OZMIN. Mine and mineral-deposit records via the EarthResourceML-Lite web feature service. © Commonwealth of Australia (Geoscience Australia), licensed under Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 Australia.

Government of South Australia — SARIG. Major mines, major quarries and developing projects datasets. © Government of South Australia, licensed under Creative Commons Attribution. South Australian project descriptions on site pages are reproduced from these datasets with attribution.

Additional state datasets (NSW, Queensland, Victoria, Tasmania, NT, WA) are being ingested progressively; each will be listed here with its licence before its data appears in the register.

Methodology, briefly

Source datasets are fetched as dated snapshots, normalised into a single schema, deduplicated (name and proximity matching), and passed through a publication gate: a record is only published with a name, type, status, state, at least one mapped commodity, coordinates, and at least one government source. Records that fail the gate — including roughly 1,427 historical workings — are held unpublished until they can be completed. State assignment near borders is deliberately conservative: ambiguous points are excluded rather than guessed.

Register last rebuilt from source data: 2026-08-24. Statuses can change between dataset releases; treat operator announcements as the live word.

Imagery

Photographic imagery on this site is illustrative of the industry and its country — it does not depict specific listed operations, and is labelled accordingly.
