What this is
A consolidated register of Australian mines and quarries: 1,048 published sites today, each with status, commodities, location and the government sources it was built from. Behind it sits an archive of 1,427 historical workings, being brought online locality by locality.
The rules we keep
Every fact traces to a source, listed on the page it appears on. No invented numbers. Records that don't meet the bar stay unpublished rather than published thin. Statuses reflect the most recent government dataset releases we've ingested — and we say so.
The records program
The industry's memory lives with its families. Our records program digitises and preserves private mining records under written, plain-English agreements — ownership stays with the family unless they choose otherwise, and credit is always their call.
Corrections
Every page links to a correction form. A person reads every submission. If we got something wrong, we'd rather know today.
